photoblog image Dog in Trash

Dog in Trash

Took this from our car while driving down to the south of Kolkata one day. This dumpster was just sitting by the side of the road and this dog was chowing down. Dogs like this one roam completely wild all over the city of Kolkata. They are all very similar in size and shape and many I saw were injured from accidents with vehicles. They seem a bit wild at times but none that I encountered seemed threatening.

This reminds me of the wild strays in Athens. Apparently they were around ever since, just doing their own thing.

I like the picture, and also wonder what it would look like as a well defined b&w

For a wild dog this one looks in good condition, l imagine he is the exception to the rule though

I was reading Rian's comment about the Philipines...which is a place where they actually eat dog. Very sad indeed, especially when you come from the States where they're often treated better than people!
A sad scene I used to see in Madagascar. Fine composition!
Such a sad scene, but you have captured it superbly. I like the composition
In this country we treat dogs better than we treat people!
Nice gritty picture Charles. I like the yellow and orange tones too.

Nice capture, like the composition.
Nice shoot , a relly pleasant street scene , Phil.
Hope you weren't driving. Yes the ubiquitous stray dogs of Kolkata ... but may also be of the whole of India.

richard
Nicely captured, not in bad condition considering the way he has to rummage for food.

Ahhhh so sad. It's a shame that this is "accepted". Good capture, though.
His markings remind me of the horse I posted a few days ago.

Poor dog. They do this in Tbilisi, Georgia as well. I lived there a number of years and the number of strays is staggering. They are debating whether or not to cul them!
Well worth stopping for the picture Charles, I enjoy documentary images from time to time.
common scene..... Would love to see the light in his eyes.....

munch munch

Cheers

A dogs life in some places certainly is no picnic. Good shot Charles.

Hello, They are half wild and they are accustomed to living in the city by the dustbins. Very nice shot. Good day.

It's sad. At one time they could have made a good pet, but now...

maybe they are a family. good capture
I guess a dog without an owner is like any other wild animal; it must hunt for food no matter where it's found.

A poignant picture of a dog's life on the street, Charles.
A wonderfully observed shot, Charles. Such a different culture to that in the UK where dogs and cats are domestic pets and these days, rarely seen roaming the streets (partly due to the dangerous dogs act).

A fine drive-by action shot of this dog surviving.
It's interesting that a strong breed develops over the years where dogs are running wild.

yes nice shot ! It make me sad and remind me when I was in holidays to the Reunion...wild dogs everywhere...
That's a shame, maybe the owner kicked him out ? A great documentary image.
Lol!!! I absolutely love the composition and framing, Couldnt be better in my perspective!!....
The picture reminds me of Africa.
