photoblog image Along the Hooghly

Along the Hooghly

So the day I went to the Dakshineswar Kali Temple we took a boat ride (like the one in this picture) across the Hooghly River to the Belur Math. We boarded the boat at the ghat you see here. A ghat is the series of steps that take you down to the river. As you can see here, the ghats are used not used for boarding boats but also for bathing in the river. The Hooghly is a major river way for Kolkata and all of West Bengal.

It was at the top of this ghat that I encountered the monkey's just hanging out.

So many faces to look at, all getting on with daily life, lots of colour, interesting.
I love the late afternoon light in this shot. Wonderful, wonderful photo.
A very Indian looking image Charles, that water must be pretty foul most of the time I would think.

Bien à toi !
This is a fabulous feast for the eyes, Charles. You can lose yourself in the scene, there is so much going on here. I have to agree with Richard Trim that this image does indeed remind one of Bruegel.
Something wrong with your today's post (17th) Charles. Just impossible to leave a comment!
Charles Dastodd: Yeah, I just discovered this problem. It won't let me edit any of the info on it either. sad

Ah! This one has a lot of people. The action is good. Each person doing something and moving one with life.
