Windows and Doors

1 of 5.

One of the amazing things about Kolkata is the beautiful colonial architecture everywhere you look. Kolkata, formerly known as Calcutta, was the capital of British India from 1772 until 1911. The British made Kolkata a major port and industrial hub because of the Hooghly River. As a result, the British influence on architecture is very apparent. Over the next few days I will feature some details from various buildings like this one.

Nice angle... excellent!
A very good sense of graphics! I had a look at your portfolio and I must say I love your work, especially your series "Sacred Places" In our vu@granby blog we have only a limited amount of "Sacred Places" as we limit it to strictly photos of our town Granby. I have few though on my private site, like Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque (unfortunately taken on a dark, rainy day, so the great light of it does not show), also some important mosques as well as the synagogue La Ghriba in Tunisia. If you want to have a look, go here and click on Tunisie or Turquie on top of the page..

Wonderful use of straight lines here. Kolkata has a lot of photogenic buildings. I wish to shoot them sometime.

Hello, I love this angle of view, this B & B is luxurious. Good day.
Wow, such fantastic interplay of lines, patterns and fine details... so wonderful too are the lighting and tonality... but it's your exceptional angle and composition that have made this picture! Original and impressive!!!

Que de lignes !!!!!!!!! Superbe !!!
It certainly does look very English Charles.
Nice bit of history captured, Charles!
Are there shutters on all the windows of this building, Charles?

You can get a glimpse of the architecture in this shot; looking forward to seeing more of it in greater detail.

I wonder if Kolkata has changed much since 'The City of Joy' was written.
