Love is in the Air

The 3rd photo in my Valentine's series. This was also taken during the wedding I went to in Kolkata.

This is the Mala Badal portion of the ceremony. The bride has been carried in on a platform. As she comes in she covers her eyes while the groom has a veil over his head. After they look at each other for the first time in the ceremony they exchange garlands three times as you see them doing here. This entire time the bride is still seated on the platform known as a piri. She is sitting cross-legged and several male family members are standing around her holding the platform so that she is level with the groom who is standing.

This is truly lovely ...and unusual. Love the way you have focused in on the wrists and garland! Takes it waaaay beyond the realm of a "snapshot."

Lovely series and perfect colors for Valentine's Day. Did you ever see the movie, "Monsoon Wedding"? Very interesting story leading up to a traditional Indian wedding.
