|The 4th photo in my Valentine's series, taken during the wedding I went to in Kolkata recently.|
Fire is a traditional part of Hindu wedding ceremonies. And fire is also an apt metaphor for love.
In this portion of the ceremony, the Anjali, an offering is made to the fire using khoi - a kind of puffed rice. The bride's brother puts the khoi in the bride's hands. The groom then stands behind her and puts his hands beneath hers. They then extend their arms forward, pouring the khoi into the fire together as you see here.
