Love is in the Air

The final photo in my Valentine's series, taken during the wedding I went to in Kolkata recently.

As I mentioned in the previous photo, fire is an important part in a Hindu ceremony. The bride and groom must summon Agni, the fire good, in order to serve as a witness to the ceremony. The groom makes an offering of ghee (a kind of clarified butter). You can see the bottle of ghee in the photo on the left. The groom pours the ghee onto the fire while he and the bride sit on the floor in front of it. The bride then makes the offering of the khoi, the puffed rice, which you can see here scattered all around the fire.

Fire is good. This is a good one, Charles.

To my old eyes this image seems a little off focus...is it me, is it you deliberately, or you accidently?
nice finish to the series Charles, you have to have stamina for an indian wedding they tend to go on for a while but are also very beautiful too
Great Valentine's series Charles

Fire the purifier. That burns sins one way of the other. Either you offer them or fire will take them anyway.
I love your version of fire. You have excellent movement in the flames without losing their definition. Well done.
Just good shot for a marriage traditional function....

The fire is nice, warming and soft! I wonder why they've left a glass jar so close to the flames!!
Cheers!

Great end for a great series.
Nice shot Charles, and and excellent story. I remember having taken a similar shot at a friend's wedding a few years back. The flames could have been a bit sharper if the shutterspeed was higher. But then, that would certainly have darkened out the bottle of ghee and the sprinkled khoi.

Isn't that what the Americans say in any case?.... Gee!! Another fascinating insight in a very different culture.
Is love consumes itself? Or becomes a burning flame?. There are readings for everyone.
