Flower Market

I have many more shots of the flower market in Kolkata, probably enough to go on for several months, but I think I will show just a few more to give a sense of the different activities. At this place the vendor was measuring flowers in the basket and then dumping them into another bag until it was full and then a runner would carry the bag off. I am not sure quite what was going on, but it was really interesting to watch.

They use these flowers (marigolds) to make garlands, either as an offering to the Gods or for use in ceremonies like weddings, etc. So he was probably just selling them to a wholesaler.

I like the simplicity of this one. Just the main person with a bit of beauty surrounding him.
I really love the colours in your flower market series and you capture the essence of the market.
the clothing in all these photographs is so wonderful - so different from here. and the closeness too - those 2 heads are so close together - there is such a feeling of everyday intimacy here.

Obviously they are sold by weight here Charles: he is a study in expertise
It looks rather cold there Charles, in fact the person on the left looks to be almost shivering.

beautiful and thoughtful image..you wonder what they must be saying to each other as they work.

If they are doing the same thing as Singapore's indians, they use those flowers for rituals, ceremonies. Carnations are often white then dyed in order to get those unusual colours!
