Windows and Doors

A series of architectural shots from around Kolkata, India. These were all taken this past January, 2010. This is the famous Writer's Building. This building originally served as the office for the writers of the British East India Company and was designed in 1780. The building is now a government building for the state of West Bengal. They were doing some kind of work on it while I was there, hence the bamboo scaffolding.

The colours are so wonderful, there is a lot to see in this picture.
amazing they use bamboo for the scaffold
More Victorian gothic with an Indian twist!
This certainly does have the look of an old colonial building Charles, strange scaffolding outside though.
Great color here. The bamboo scaffolding really makes the picture.
I have seen bamboo scaffolding before and it just looks so fragile and unsafe. Great building all over. smile

The bamboo scaffolding reminds me of China. I wouldn't dare to work on such precarious structure! Looks pretty though, almost as if it is part of the building.

The scaffolding doesn't looks too sturdy, but building has so much going for it. I'm glad it's being looked after. Well done!
