Salt Lake City and County Building

Also known as the City-County building, this structure was built by free masons between 1891 and 1894. History suggests that this structure was built not only as a counter or rival to the Mormon temple but also in defiance of those citizens who opposed the Latter Day Saints. The central clock tower seen here is 256ft (78m) tall.

Is there some kind of tie between Mormons and Freemasons, Charles?
Charles Dastodd: that I don't know. It might just have been the Freemasons that built it, but designed and promoted by the citizens who opposed the LSD church. I would have to do some research to find out.

Incredible architecture again. This view will be hidden in a few months' time when the trees are in full leaf. I can;t recall ever seeing this on the visits I've had to the city - must be blind!
Charles Dastodd: Its south of the Temple and Tabernacle area. And it is surrounded by trees, so if you were there any other time than winter it would have been a bit obscured depending on which way you were looking at it.
Love how it looks through the tree
