photoblog image Utah State Capitol

Utah State Capitol

Before I end my Salt Lake City series I wanted to show a full shot of the Capitol building. The Capitol was built between 1912 and 1916 and its dome reaches 286ft (87m) high. The Capitol is home to the Utah State Legislature. When Utah became a state in 1896, there was of course no Capitol building yet, so the first officials were initially sworn in at the Mormon Tabernacle. It was not until 1909 that they approved the construction of this building. As I mentioned in my previous post on on the Capitol, the State Legislature only meets for 6 weeks of the year, or more precisely, for 45 days. The legislative session is set at this length by the Utah State Constitution. So by law, all legislative business for the year must be completed by midnight on the 45th day of the term.

Hopefully the inside of the building folds up at the press of a button, and the building becomes an indoor sports arena for the remaining 320 days each year.

great to see the full Building, an impressive building and impressive shot and processing
I think this kind of processing has to used selectively, and it works very well for this shot. The angle of view is also well chosen. Well done!

I like the conversion that you did here. Must be very tricky to have the humans appear so ghostly.

Is this taken from a painting...or is this post-processing magic?

It's an impressive building. I think the last time I saw it, it was going through a multi-year restoration programme with parts of the building "under wraps". Good to see it complete.
fabulous smile
