photoblog image Costa Rican Wildlife

Costa Rican Wildlife

A sloth. This is one of the creatures that I most wanted to see in Costa Rica. In characteristic sloth fashion, it just hung there without moving. This one is at Manuel Antonio. We saw a mother and a baby sloth on our night walk at the Monteverde Cloud Forest, but those shots did not come out well at all, particularly as their faces were partially obscured by some branches. But we did at least see their faces and some movement. This one had its face completely hidden.

For more animal shots from my trip go here.

I saw one too in Costa Rica and I was amazed that it wasn't scared at all when we came close to take pictures. He seemed just to focused on what it was doing (not much actually!).
what an awesome capture. Love all of the colors and his nails..
It is amazing all the wildlife you saw there. The claws and paws of this guy are fascinating, and so is the texture of the tree branch he is on.

Well worth trying Charles. These are amazing creatures & I wonder why they have evolved into their lifestyle. Do they have a long lifespan?

Un étrange animal que le paresseux...dommage qu'on ne voie pas sa tête !
Imagine having bananas for fingers.
The sloth's yellow claws really grab your attention in this capture, Charles. They appear to act as finger extensions from the hand to provide the firm grip they need to hang safely from the branches.
Bello un bradipo!
They probably have an inbuilt genetic characteristic that makes them hide their faces when they see a camera! But faces in evidence or not it's still a good picture.
These must be one of the most unusual creatures on the planet Charles, how lucky to see one.

Wow!! What a gorgeous toning and colour in this picture. It looks almost like a drawing. The only small point of criticism I have is that his face is invisible.

I love sloths a lot!!
Wow, what a lot of great wildlife you have been able to see. Love the claws.
The claws are what the shot is all about. Very nice.
